Massonia postulata SEEDS x 20 (Blistered Massonia) - Rare South African Bulb
Unusual South African bulb, which features two large oval to round leaves that hug the ground.
Massonia postulata’s two leaves each grow to 20cm+ diameter. And are quite the curiosity. But things get even more interesting when the head of flowers emerge from the centre of the two leaves, and remain at ground level.
M.postulata flowers aren’t the prettiest of the Massonia’s, but are one of the most interesting. They feature a large quantity of very thick ‘nectar’, almost the consistency of jelly, which is said to attract small ground dwelling rodents like gerbils (see pictures).
Easily grown as a container plant, this bulb is dormant over summer (although it should never be stored dry due to having perennial roots) and breaks dormancy in early Autumn.
Keep away from snails / slugs.
