How to Germinate Gardenia Seeds:

Materials Needed:

Gardenia seeds
Seed-starting mix or well-draining potting soil
Seed trays or small pots
Clear plastic wrap or a plastic dome
Watering can or spray bottle
Warm, bright location
Steps:

Seed Collection: Harvest mature gardenia seed pods when they turn yellowish or brown. Remove the seeds from the pods and clean them.
Scarification: Gardenia seeds have a hard outer coat that can inhibit germination. Scarify the seeds by nicking or scratching the seed coat with a small knife or sandpaper. This helps water penetrate and initiate the germination process.
Soil Preparation: Fill seed trays or small pots with a well-draining seed-starting mix or potting soil. Moisten the soil with water.
Sowing Seeds: Plant the scarified gardenia seeds on the surface of the soil. Press them gently into the soil, but do not cover them, as gardenia seeds require light to germinate.
Moisture and Covering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Cover the seed trays or pots with clear plastic wrap or a plastic dome to create a humid environment for the seeds.
Warm Location: Place the seed trays or pots in a warm location with bright, indirect light. Gardenias prefer temperatures around 70-75°F (21-24°C) for germination.
Germination Period: Gardenia seeds can take several weeks to months to germinate. Be patient and keep the soil consistently moist.
