THE ESPLANADE Restaurant - New York City - Vintage Matchbook Cover
Description: Here's an interesting vintage standard-sized matchbook cover from The Esplanade, a New York restaurant on East 72nd Street. It claimed to be "INTIMATE AND CHARMING" and served "LUNCHEON / COCKTAILS / DINNER". The phone number is given in the old style as "RHinelander 4-9780".
There's no printing on the inside.
Actual Size: approx. 2" x 1.5" (closed)
Date: Not dated, but the style of the phone number probably puts it in the 1950s or so, I would think.
Condition: Just good, I'd say. The cover is a bit soiled, with a couple creases, and the striker strip has been heavily used. There's also some damage to the striker strip area, likely from the removal of the staple that held the matches, along with an additional set of staple holes which pass through the striker strip and both sides of the cover. (Please see scans.)
**NOTE**: Shipping charges are discounted when more than one of my items are purchased at the same time. See what else I have to offer!
