  • Description
Description: Here's a nice vintage standard-sized matchbook cover advertising both Kramer's, apparently a drug store and gift shop, and Vanity Cleaners. Both were located at 1400 Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, Illinois, Kramer's in the lobby and Vanity Cleaners on the 22nd Floor. Kramer's offered Drug Sundries, Cosmetics, Magazines, Cigarettes, Candy and Gift Items, while Vanity Cleaners offered Fine Dry Cleaning, Hand Pressing, Tailoring, Storage, and 4 Hour Service.

The inside says "For Quick Service, Qualify Merchandise, Patronize Kramer's and Vanity" and gives the phone number in the old style of "WHitehall 4-4180".

Produced by Match Corp. of America, Chicago

Actual Size: approx. 2" x 1.5" (closed)

Date: Not dated, but the style of the phone number probably places it in the 1950s, or perhaps early 1960s.

Condition: Just good, I'd say. The cover is somewhat soiled and worn, and the striker strip shows some moderate usage. There's also noticeable damage to the striker strip area, likely from rough removal of the staple that held the matches, along with an additional set of staple holes which pass through the striker strip and both sides of the cover. (Please see scans.)
