  • Description
Description: Here's an interesting vintage standard-sized matchbook cover advertising the benefits of "Flameless Automatic Electric Water Heating". It says "BEWARE / DON'T USE THESE MATCHES with water heaters".

The inside tells you why you should "INSIST ON ELECTRIC WATER HEATING" which "Banishes danger of open flame", "Dispenses with soot, grime and obnoxious fumes", "Makes for cooler kitchens - - cooler homes". Also, "It's cleaner to go all-electric in your kitchen-laundry" and "Yes, it's safe as Electric Light - assures peace of mind, ..AND PEACE OF MIND IS PRICELESS!"

Produced by Lion Match Co., Inc., Miami, Florida

Actual Size: approx. 2" x 1.5" (closed)

Date: Not dated, but certainly appears to be from the 1950s or earlier.

Condition: Fair, I'd say. The cover is somewhat soiled and worn along the surface and edges. There's noticeable damage to the striker strip area, likely from rough removal of the staple that held the matches, and also an additional set of staple holes which pass through the striker strip and both sides of the cover. (Please see scans.)
