Build a Word Pig with Letter Strips is a fun activity allows students to practice blending letters and building words. Students move the eyes of this pig to make words for CVC and CVCC and CCVC spelling patterns. I find it to be a wonderful activity for any age group who needs assistance reading or writing these patterns for the short i sound. (There is a possibility that the word pint could be made; I usually explain this is an exception to the general rule.)
I have used this activity with ESOL , ESE, and general education students in varying grade levels. All the students seemed to really enjoy it and benefit from it. I have also used this in small groups, whole groups (together and then individually), and for one-on-one work.
May you enjoy!
