Barry Craig Confidential Investigator Old Time Radio MP3 2 Disc Set

A change of pace from the usual old time radio hard boiled detective, Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator, was a more laid back type. He very rarely got flustered, always keeping an even tone. Barry Craig's character was in sharp contrast to the more hard boiled PI's and Police old time radio shows of the time. Before we go deeper into the Barrie Craig old time radio show, I want to bring out a few points that may have helped William Gargan, who played Barrie Craig Confidential Investigator.

Gargan's father was a bookmaker, so Gargan was familiar with some of the more 'interesting' members of society.
Gargan himself, was one time a private investigator, he knew what the Barrie Craig character was all about.
He once worked as a credit investigator and collection agent for a clothing manufacturer. While attempting to collect a debt, he got shot at!
He worked at one time as a P.I. for $10 a day plus expenses. I wonder if he was as 'careful' as Johnny Dollar in keeping track of expenses?
He finally was fired as a Private Investigator when he lost track of a diamond salesman he was supposed to be tailing and protecting.
If that's not a resume for playing an investigator or private eye, I don't know what is. He must have surely felt comfortable playing the part in this great old time radio show. Barrie Craig Confidential Investigator got it's start in 1951 on NBC, and it ran until 1955. It was part of NBC's Silver Jubilee, marking it's 25th anniversary of being on the air. Barrie Craig was one of the shows developed especially for this important NBC milestone. It was part of a package of shows that NBC was using to mark their silver anniversary. Barrie Craig was scheduled in different timeslots on different days. Which may or may not have helped this old time radio crime drama. It was aired in conjunction with some other old time radio greats such as Halls Of Ivy, You Bet Your Life, and The Big Town. But old time radio was fighting an uphill battle with competing against the post WWII popularity of television.
Barrie Craig was known for the man you could go to when you couldn't go to the cops. His cases were varied, and he did have an associate, police Lt. Travis Rogers, who was played by old time radio actor Ralph Bell. He had a Madison Avenue office, and as sometimes mentioned in his shows he was in demand, and had other cases to be solved. His laid back style appealed to a large audience, he had interesting cases, and like most PI's of the time he feared no man. But he was fair to the ones that were worthy, and if not, he was their worst nightmare.

In addition to Gargan playing the role, and great promotion from NBC, Barrie Craig Confidential Investigator had some great support from the rest of the old time radio world. One of the directors was Himan Brown, who went on later to produce another old time radio show you may have heard of....CBS Radio Mystery Theater! Barrie Craig Confidential Investigator also had some of the most famous actors in old time radio such as Herb Ellis, Parley Bear, Howard McNear, Virginia Gregg, and more.
