An Art Deco. Ladies Enameled Glass Bowl by Karl Palda.
A Collectable, Bohemian Decorated Bowl.
This is a 1930’s, Bohemian Art Glass Design, by the famous Karl Palda studio. Made of clear crystal glass, with a raised black enamel décor and deep olive cutting. This glass, is also fire polished as part of the finishing process.
Bohemia excelled in glassmaking, after the demise of the Venetian industry in Murano.
It managed to re-invent the tricky steps required, between glass technology and modern design. Living on the cusp of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, both Art nouveau and Art Deco flourished in this part of the world.
The applied crystal cut décor is not subdued, the enamels are quite lively. These are inspired by the hidden world of molecules, atoms and electricity. In fact the top edge of the object, resembles a typical Art Deco Ladies wristband of the time, but with a twist, everything is a mirror image of each other.
It also contains a timeless flowing design which quite literally; is fused together with the “Jazzy Beat” of the Art Deco music, pulsing with the life of that time, and all frozen into a very stylish shape.
A smaller sized and heavy bowl shape; with chromium fittings meant for a Lady’s bedroom suit.
Perhaps ideal as a object in itself; or for the original use of keeping cotton wool balls, for removing make up.
Both the enamels and design; very much prefer being highlighted by either artificial or sunlight, in order to fully bring it alive.
However, it is definitely not an object, to have skulking in a dark corner somewhere.
A good accord of enamel and design, it being both quite elegant and functional.
