A Collectable Austrian Gilt Glass Vase.
This is a very collectable 1890’s -1900 Secessionist style gilt vase, with dark red and green decoration, with sprigs of daffodils deeply etched into the glass.
It is inspired by the Japanese woodcuts and by the European Avant Garde movement of the Art Nouveau period.
Like the plant itself, this object is very much fond of lighting effects, due to the sculptural flows, colours and patterns.
The pontil mark has been ground and polished and the letter 19 is still visible.
A very nice object, of very good craftsmanship, representing the Art Nouveau period styles.
Though unmarked except for the letter 19 underneath, it has the style and composition of the very talented glass designer Marie Kirschner 1852 – 1931. It also has strong echoes of her works, which are to be found in the Glass museum in Passau, Germany.
A delightful piece of quality glass, being both well designed and crafted.
It will need a pride of place situation with some good lighting in order to bring out the design and colours. Not an item, to leave lurking in a dark corner somewhere.
