Collectable Antique Writing Materials
A very uncommon, classical and attractive crystal desk set, with a silver “fire gilt” Guilloche lid and mount, original blown glass ink reservoir and pen rest.
Made in the Austro –Hungarian Empire and fully Hallmarked on both lid and collar by the Vienna assay office 1891 -1901; made by Mayerhofer & Klinkosch.
It also carries the full import duty marks, for the Royal Netherlands of 1906.
The Guilloche lid (engine turned and enameled) is decorated very delicately with tiny swathes of Alpine flowers.
One needs to be a highly skilled painter, in order to execute such work in the very difficult enamel technique. The bottom is both cut and ground, with a “Star Burst” motief to give added accents to the whole block of glass.
Furthermore the glass design and fire polishing, make the object slightly prismatic in the sunlight, thereby causing a faint rainbow effect.
A quite feminine and agreeable, useful object, to grace any Ladies workspace, which might involve reading or writing.
A decorative desk or workspace artifact, with exceptional quality enamels on the lid. Quite an eye aristocratic catcher in its own right, but not of the vulgar, or blingy sort of artefact.
Perhaps, more of a functional quality fashion statement.
It can however, also be used as a paperweight to avoid the embarrassment of scuttling around ones knees, while chasing unruly bits of paper on the floor; and the accompanying ladders in ones stockings.
The approximate sizes in centimeters are;
Total height; 8.9 x L 12.8 x W 5.8 cm. Weight; 840 grams. ( Just under one lb)
Condition; The condition is good, normal wear and tear. No chips, or damage to the object etc.
Shipping & Insurance; Delivery ASAP. Asking a contribution from buyer of $ 8.00 USD toward costs.
Returns; We accept returns. Money will be refunded after receiving the object(s) which are packed securely for shipping and also insured. Objects being returned, must be in the same condition as shown in the photographs and conform to the original sales description.
