Cloak and Dagger is an old time radio show taken from the book Cloak And Dagger- The Secret Story Of The O.S.S. by Corey Ford and Alastair MacBain. The OSS was later to become the Central Intelligence Agency, or CIA.
Not that anything had to be done to enhance these fascinating stories, NBC did by getting Wyliss Cooper as the director. He also had historian Percy Hoksins, and English journalist and reporter to check facts, and do research for this exciting old time radio adventure series.
The scripts and stories were all based on fact, with Hoskins making sure everything was accurate. Are you ready to undertake a dangerous for the United States, knowing in advance you may never return alive? Well, the men that provided the fodder for these trues stories did! Aside from being an exciting old time radio show, it shed a little light, and gave some much deserved recognition to these heroes.
Just the names of some of the episodes of Cloak And Dagger sound exciting: Direct Line To Bombers, The Swastika On The Windmill, The Black Radio, The Secret Box. Other than Cloak And Dagger being about WWII, there is no recurring character or plot. Cloak And Dagger had some of the finest talent in old time radio though, Berry Kroeger, Larry Haines, Martin Balsam, Maurice Tarplan, just to name a few. Each show was about a different mission.
Cloak And Dagger had only 26 scripts written, and of those, only 24 aired. There are only 22 episodes left for us to enjoy today. Any other time in old time radio, Cloak And Dagger would have lasted much longer. But this was a very cut throat time for radio. Networks were changing shows on the fly to try to compete with TV, and shows of high quality, like Cloak And Dagger didn't make it.
One interesting note about Cloak And Dagger, there are no episodes about the war in the Pacific Theater. Gen. Douglas MacArthur, whether right or wrong, didn't want the OSS in his theater of operations. The only other region of the world where these super spies didn't operate was in the US. J. Edgar Hoover had a tight control of espionage activities in this country.
Truth is stranger than fiction, anyone who likes espionage, war stories, adventure, and exotic locations is going to love this show. Every aspect of it is exceptional, and the stories can not be beat! Another show that is similar in a lot of ways is The Silent Men. If you like that, you'll like this, and vice versa.
Cloak And Dagger has all 22 remaining episodes on one MP3 CD, very good quality I might add.
