Ex-library in excellent condition, clean & tight, back pocket, no markings other than minimal library markings, mylar cover, blue dot on top edge. 201 pages. Numerous b/w illustrations. 9 1/2" tall. A very handsome copy of this juvenile/young adult classic.
This Newbery Honor Book of 1932 tells of Marquerite, a young French orphan, who is 'bound out' for six years in exchange for food, shelter, and clothing to the Sargent family, settlers in the New World. In 1743, thirteen-year-old Marguerite Ledoux travels to Maine as the indentured servant of a family that regards her as little better than the Indians that threaten them, but her strength, quick thinking and courage surprise them all.
