We want to offer wonderful Uzbek antique suzani from Djizakh region near Samarkand, circa- 1880's.
Djizakh Suzani is very unique by own rich pattern. In the embroidery you can find the archaic features. The most surface of this suzani is covered with 100% silk handmade embroidery. There is the large vortex rosettes in the centre of the field. Varied rosettes produce an unusual revival in the general rhythm of composition and fill the whole ornament with some elusive motion. The rosettes are filled with joyful, playful motifs. They are various not only by the internal ornamental idea but also by size that promote the impression as though the composition has depth and space. It produces an unforgettable impression. Each rosette is surrounded with impressive stylized leafs and stems design. The spaces between the circles are filled with peppers, pomegranates, nice blossoms and leafs. Fine designed black line gives clearity to the pattern and demarcates separate subjects. The total effect is overwhelming: very few examples of this type have the same dense complexity of palette and pattern, stitch technique and design. It is a work of great labor, patience and skill.
Excellent stitches are used here. The large solid areas are worked with very fine Basma stitch; the outlines are heavy open chain stitch. Here are used natural dyes for the most glorious colors. The dye materials used include madder, cochineal, indigo, walnut, pomegranat and along with assorted others.
The embroidery in this piece is in very good condition, with the exception of black areas where there is some corrosion of the silk embroidery threads. There are several small a torn places.
