First Edition
My Trip to France
By Rev. J. P. Donelan, copyright 1857
P.J. Kennedy, Excelsior Catholic Publishing House, New York
A pro-catholic theme is found throughout. A close look at the church & convents in France. Much information on Catholic France during turbulent times.
Hardcover in brown cloth. Decorative boards with gold gilt & embossed design featuring flowers, a bird & a butterfly. Measures about 7-1/8" x 4-3/4" x about 1-1/8" thick. 347 pages plus 4 pages of publications by PJ Kennedy Excelsior Catholic Publishing House at the back of the book.
The book is in good condition, considering it's more than 150 years old. Cover has scuffs & edge & corner wear, as well as some wear to the decoration. The binding is starting to come apart; both at the front & the back & a couple pages are missing from the front of the book. Besides the title page, I am not sure exactly how many pages are missing, but I am guessing there was probably an end page & possibly another page in between the two. The 1st page inside the front cover is the dedication page, followed by the Preface, Table of Contents & then Chapter 1. There is some age related discoloration of the pages & some minor foxing of the page edges, but the pages are clean with none torn or creased, etc. Cover & pages are intact & (except for the few pages at the front of the book) all pages are present. Handwritten in ink inside the front cover is the name of a previous owner & what looks like the number 20 written in blue pencil.
