Arts & Crafts antique fringed stole rayon silk Lurex ll1764

This very rare fringed stole is from the Arts and Crafts era. It is made of possibly silk or rayon and silk blend with silk fringe and gold Lurex thread running lengthwise.

The color is a light and dark olive. One photo looks tan/brown but I only included that to show the detail of the pattern. The flash tends to cause glare and wash the true colors.

The pattern in the darker area is of small dots within circles with silk threads running lengthwise. This gives the look of micro pleating but it is not pleated. The lighter olive has horizontal bands of daisies, the larger Arts and Crafts typical flowers, and diamonds. The pattern throughout is jacquard woven not printed. The stole is 23 inches wide and 58 inches long not counting the fringe.

This is an incredible survivor and in superior condition. Whether you dress in vintage clothing or add vintage accessories to your modern wardrobe, this will become a favorite piece. Wear it as a coat or suit scarf in winter or as a shawl with a bare dress in summer. The photos are not great but as usual it is raining here and it is tricky fabric to photograph.
