Diospyros kaki, the persimmon, is a deciduous tree native to Central Asia and Japan. It is a relatively slow growing tree generally culminating between 6 and 8m. After a yellow-cream spring flowering, very ornamental fruits appear when ripe, when they take on an orange tint and the leaves have fallen.
The persimmon is a fruit tree well adapted to Mediterranean climates. It has great ornamental qualities, especially in autumn. Finally, it is a tree that is very resistant to cold, which can survive frosts of -17°C, or even a little lower depending on the conditions.
The foliage of the persimmon tree is deciduous, and particularly colorful in autumn, in shades of red. The young leaves, on the other hand, are large and oval, bright green in colour, shiny on the top.
