Onion Californian Red or Red Shine is a beautiful, bright-deep-red, globe-shaped onion suited to areas in cooler climate zones. They store much better than most red types onions. It has white flesh and a mild but full flavor. Red onions add color as well as flavor to cooked dishes and especially to salads. Onions like a fine rich soil and an open sunny position. Days to harvest: 195 - 225.
Sow 5mm deep, in rows 30cm apart. Cover with fine soil and keep moist. Thin seedlings early to 2cm and later to 10cm apart. Prepare the soil well by adding organic material and a pre-planting fertiliser. Seedlings emerge 10-14 days.
