Toby Creamer and Sugar Made in Japan MIJ
This "Toby" creamer and covered sugar are ceramic and are marked, “Made in Japan”. The creamer has a pistol handle; the sugar bowl cover is a hat. Height: sugar, 3 3/8 in.; creamer, 2 1/8 in. Very good condition – no chips or cracks, but the hat has a glaze flaw (see last photo), which is pretty common with MIJ items. The origins of the Toby came from the Staffordshire region of England beginning about 1700: they are ceramic pitchers, or jugs, in the form of a person.
