This is the third edition of American Government: Policy and Politics by the late Wendell Bedichek and Neal Tannahill as published in 1991 for the Houston Community College System. When Bedicheck and Tannahill first began work on an American government textbook a decade prior, they wanted to produce a book that would explain the basics of American government in a fashion that was both easy to understand and interesting to read.
They knew from experience in the classroom that many students are poorly informed about government and set out to explain the subject clearly, assuming their audience of student readers would have little prior knowledge of American government or political science.
Following are the 16 chapters from the textbook's table of contents:
Introduction: Political Science and Public Policy
1. American and the World
2. The American Constitution
3. The Federal System
4. Public Opinion
5. Individual and Group Participation
6. Political Parties
7. Elections
8. Congress
9. The Presidency
10. The Federal Bureaucracy
11. The Federal Courts
12. Economic Policymaking
13. Regulatory Policymaking
