Site Requirements /Soil Tolerances: Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Tolerates clay; loam; sand; acidic soils. Best in full sun. Prefers moist, fertile soils. Avoid wet, poorly-drained soils. Shelter from wind. Moderately tolerant of air pollution.

Culture: Hinoki Cypress needs little pruning to develop a strong structure and is very tolerant of pruning. Upright branches tend to fork, and these should be pruned to a single branch since they will likely break at the fork in high winds or under a snow load. Prune in summer, but don't cut into the older, brown-barked stems.

Uses: Accents/specimens, hedges, screens and foundation/rock garden.
