Hans Andersen’s Fairy Tales illustrated by William Heath Robinson is for sale. This is the first edition that is not dated but is circa 1927.

The red binding is in Good condition. The front board has a wonderful plate inlaid of a stork illustrated in gilt. The front board has a black mark and fading; there is fading to the spine; the back board has fading and marks; and the spine has knocks to the top and the bottom of the spine; and there are corner knocks.

There are 288 numbered pages as called for, with 16 coloured plates as per the list in the book, and numerous full page and smaller black and white illustrations. The colour plates each have their own tissue guards (that are discoloured) with all the plates being in Fine condition except for the plate opposite page 56 which is in Very Good condition with an old crease present but barely noticeable.

All the other pages are exceptionally clean and in overall Very Good condition.

This is a lovely example of this collectable children’s illustrated book.
