The Picture Show Annual 1926, rare film book from the early days of Hollywood, is for sale.
This wonderful vintage film book measures 8½ x 11 inches, and was published by The Amalgamated Press (1922) Ltd.
The front board has a wonderful large colour photograph of Rudolph Valentino and Helena D’Algy in a scene from “The Sainted Devil”. The back board has an advertisement for Picture Show magazine.
The binding is in Good condition with an attractive front board with wear; and significant wear to the original blue cloth spine and back board.
This rare and highly collectable vintage film book has 160 numbered pages and is packed with exceptional photographs and features from 1926! For instance, the frontispiece has a colour illustration of Douglas Fairbanks and Julanne Johnston in a scene from the classic “The Thief of Bagdad”; the Title Page is decorated with images of great film stars including Charlie Chaplin in a scene from The Gold Rush; full page photographs of Ivor Novello, Alice Terry, Betty Balfour, “Charles Spencer Chaplin”, Bebe Daniels, Marion Davies, Harold Lloyd, Tom mix dressed as a cowboy, and many other great photographs (some in costume) throughout this very attractive and collectable film book.
The features are many and include “This Is Rudolph Valentino”; “The Gish Sisters”, “The Life of An Extra Girl”, “Norma Talmadge in “The Lady””, “Pola Negri As A Queen in “Forbidden Paradise””, “Syd Chaplin ~ Charlie’s Brother and “Charlie’s Aunt””, and many more great features.
To the end of the book is the section “Who’s Who In 1926 Pictures” between page 145 through to and including page 160.
The pages are in overall Very Good condition being remarkably clean and fresh in appearance with cracking to some of the internal hinges, that are cosmetic since the pages are still firmly bound-in to the film book, and age toning to the blank endpapers.
This is an incredibly attractive, collectable and desirable rare example of the Picture Show Annual 1926.
