Orthodox Icon of Panagia Glykofilousa (Sweet Kissing) on thick plywood 20mm thick, which does not sting and keeps its shape over time. Preparation with acrylic stucco and have been used acrylic colors. It has been covered with a special varnish to keep the colors undiluted in time and humidity. Hanging clip included on the back of the icon.
DIMENSIONS 20X25 CM.
Like Panagia Portaitissa, Glykofillousa is one of the icons that survived the iconoclasm and were miraculously transported to Athos.
It was a possession of Victoria, a loyal wife of the iconoclastic senator Simeon, who, in order not to surrender her, threw her into the sea. The image, standing upright in the waves, reached the army of the Philotheou Monastery, where it was received with much honor and joy by the Abbot and the fathers of the Monastery, who had been notified by the revelation of the Virgin Mary.
At the point of the coast, where they laid the picture, it swirled. There every year on the Monday of Easter, litany and sanctification are taking place.
Many are the miracles of Glykofilousa. In 1713 he responded to the prayers of the worshipful chaplain Ioannikios, who was accused of the poverty of the monastery, assuring that he had the provision for the material needs of the monastery. In 1800 he saved a pilgrim who fell under the guesthouse, located on the third floor.
