One program commended in ''Computer Viruses'' is Virus Infection Protection, for the Amiga. It is now out in a new, improved version.
The first magnetic track on many disks usually contains the instructions for getting the computer to work. That is called ''booting'' the machine. A virus that attacks that track will stop you right at the start. What VIP does, among other things, is to let you make a copy of that boot track on another disk, so that, if disaster strikes, you have a clean copy of the track and can transfer it back to the original disk. The program is already set up to recognize six well-known Amiga viruses and has provisions for building up information on new ones, so it can recognize them the next time around.
This is not a program for anyone who still has trouble finding the power switch on the computer, but in fact it is easier to use than the 18-page manual would seem to suggest.
