Methven is a small village near Perth in Scotland most noted for the site where Robert the Bruce was defeated by the Earl of Pembroke in 1306.
This china windmill with spinning vanes was made in Stoke on Trent by the Arcadian China company. This company was owned by Arkinstall & Sons and operated between 1904 and 1924. The windmill bears the crest of Methven. It is 4.5 inches high and has no damage other than a bit of wear to the gold accents. Not bad for a piece of china a hundred years old. At this writing it is the only Arcadian Crest windmill showing up in online searches.
Other noteworthy facts about Methven:
Margaret Tudor, sister of Henry VIII lived in Methven castle from 1526-1541.
The battle of Tibbermore took place just south of Methven in 1644.
Robert Stirling, inventor of the Stirling external combustion engine, was born in Methven in 1790.
