There are different types of sitars and the construction of a quality sitar differs for each type. Making of sitar is a complex process. These instruments are crafted by experienced sitar 'makers' or 'fitters'.The neck, faceplate, and gourd of the finely-crafted sitar are typically constructed of a combination of mahogany and teak wood, and its bridges are made from materials such as deer horn, ebony, or even camel bone, although synthetic materials are also used in modern times, often to lesser effect albeit. Expert sitar makers string the instrument with a bridge through the process of optimizing the sitar's tonal quality called jawari, and then allow the instrument rest for around a week to allow the neck to bend slightly.
