  • Description
Description: Here's a nice vintage matchbook cover advertising Red Cross Shoes, which were sold by Krause's Bootery, located on Northwest Highway (in Chicago, Illinois). The shoes were touted as "America's Favorites!, "Beautiful...The Way They Look, The Way They Fit, The Way They Feel".

The inside has the address and phone number for Krause's Bootery, along with the shoe company's logo and a disclaimer. The phone number is given in the old style of "RO. 3-0922".

Produced by The Diamond Match Co., St. Louis, Missouri

Actual Size: approx. 2" x 1.5" (closed)

Date: Not dated, but the old style of the phone number probably puts it in the 1950s, or perhaps early 1960s.

Condition: Good, I'd say. The cover is just a bit soiled, with a few creases. The striker strip shows moderate usage, plus some additional damage from rough removal of the original staples, along with a second set of staple holes that pass through the striker strip and both sides of the cover. (Please see scans.)
