This is a set of comprehension tests (or worksheets) for "The Bad Beginning," the first book in "A Series of Unfortunate Events." There is a test is for each two to three chapters and is filled with different level of questions and written responses.
Important things to know may include:
There are SIX tests and SIX answer keys included.
There are 10 questions and a choice of a bonus question on each test. (Students can choose Bonus A or Bonus B on each test.)
The bonus question is a written response and worth up to 20 points each. I tell my students the requirements (which are written above the bonus questions) prior to the test and partial to full credit for the amount correct.
Every test has at least two additional short, written responses excluding the bonus questions. All the remaining questions are multiple choice.
There are different level and types of questions. Some questions are right from the story while others ask for student opinions related to the text.
There are two questions, on the chapters 4-5 test, which asks students to compare the text from Bible verses, of the King James Version, to the characters in these chapters.
There is at least one vocabulary, multiple choice question on each test.
There are no markings or other indication that this is a test, so these could be used for homework or class work too.
Some Related Common Core Standards: RL.5.1, RL.5.2, RL.5.4, RL.5.6, RL.6.1, RL.6.4, RL.6.10, L.5.4a, and .L.6.6
