  • Description
Here's an attractive antique postcard featuring what appears to be a painting of a couple peasant women with their wicker market baskets, standing on the shore, trying to get the attention of the ferry man on the other side of the river or canal. One woman appears to be calling to him while the other is waving her arm. The card is entitled "HAILING THE FERRYMAN".

The back states that the card was published by the Rose Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is No. 905 in the 'ART SERIES".

The card carries three postmarks. The first is from Warrenton, Missouri, on September 15, 1907. Then there's a postmark from Wentville, Missouri, on September 16, 1907, beside a penciled "missent" notation. Finally, there's a receiving postmark from Chesterfield, Missouri, on September 17, 1907. The card is addressed to a Miss Evelyn Mueller in Chesterfield, Missouri, from someone with the initials "C. M. W.".

Size: approx. 3½" x 5½"

Date: Postmarked 1907 but the card itself has no copyright date.

Condition: Good, I'd say. It's obviously postally used and is somewhat soiled, with the sender's message written on both sides. The edges and corners are somewhat worn and there's a diagonal crease across the upper left corner. (Please see scans.)

MULTIPLE ITEM SHIPPING DISCOUNT: I will ship up to 4 cards for the single base shipping charge shown. For purchases of more than 4 cards, the shipping charge will increase by just a small increment for every 4 additional cards.
