Vintage Hand-crafted Oriental Yixing Clay Teapot - Bats & Falcon (17 oz)
This unique medium-size teapot is 100% handmade with clay. It is unglazed and daringly detailed with mythical bats circling an oriental design on the front and back of the body. There is also a so-called "Falcon" (or a type of mythical bird) carved out on the body at the spout area and its opposite side. Chinese legend has it that falcon, a type of predatory bird, is regarded as a symbolic icon for boldness and keen vision.
The teapot is different from others due to its inward-shaped lid, as opposed to many other traditional teapots. Also, the copper handle is a unique giveaway. This antique collectible can be perceived as Yixing-inspired clay teapot, which reportedly was first handcrafted by a monk during Zhengde Emperor (1502-1521) in Yixing, China.
This precious item is a must-have collectible for antique and pottery enthusiasts because of its whimsicality, although one can brew Black or Oolong tea for two to relive the ancient era.
