Beatrice joins her sisters in my new series of OOAK Art Dolls. Her skirt is made from cotton fabric. Her hair is embellished with silk flowers and beads. Beatrice's bodice is a one-of-a-kind beaded tapestry made especially for her.
Dolls start with a body sculpted using a cloth plaster technique resulting in a firm yet lightweight base, the the 'stump doll' style made popular in Tudor England. Doll heads are sculpted in Fimo air dry clay and hand painted with their own features. Each doll then evolves individually, the finished item achieved by intuitively adding decoration as the work progresses, culminating in a unique Art Doll.
