Evette joins her sisters in my new series of OOAK Art Dolls. Her skirt is hand coloured calico using ink and paint, inspired by a Pennsylvania Dutch design. Her collar is made from gold satin. With a machine embroidered Celtic design waistband, embellishments of silk and paper flowers, feathers, gems and crochet hairnet, her dress is a lovely mixture of texture and colour.
Dolls start with a body sculpted using a cloth plaster technique resulting in a firm yet lightweight base, the the 'stump doll' style made popular in Tudor England. Doll heads are sculpted in Fimo air dry clay and hand painted with their own features. Each doll then evolves individually, the finished item achieved by intuitively adding decoration as the work progresses, culminating in a unique Art Doll.
