This is a great piece from a quantity of glamourous clothing I found at an estate sale for a woman who had been both an avid collector and entrepreneur with shops in the southwest. Most of the clothing had been stored for some time; just about everything survived well.
This fun skirt must have been custom made for someone...I can't find any tags or other ID. It's made from a great piece of fabric...a heavy white embroidered cotton organdy (type) floral design with cutwork. I'm limping along a bit with this description, but you can see what I mean! I love the fabric!
Someone has worked nicely with it to get the maximum usage from it; it's exactly 42" long. The top edge has been gathered to fit to a cotton back and the bottom edge was faced with the yellow linen that was turned upward to form the bottom band. The bottom edge is 66" around; the waistband hook and eyes give a 30-1/2" length around. The linen band at the bottom measures 2-5/8".
The belt is the finishing touch; it's 1-1/2" wide and measuring the hook and eye "space" again, it's 31-1/4". A flat bow (which would not cooperate for the pictures...needs a good steam pressing) finishes the look.
When you examine this skirt, you realize how unique it is...probably the best useage of an entire piece of fabric I've ever seen...any seamstress who see this will understand completely!! It deserves to have a brand new life...pair it with a yellow tee (or whatever you see with it) and be a sensation at a pool party, picnic, or such. It's a knockout outfit in the making!
