Belgian and Shire Horses-Edwin Megargee Original Vintage Lithograph Print
Huge Storewide Summer Sale Through August. REDUCED 30% OFF FROM $45.00.
Edwin Megargee Original Vintage Lithograph Print depicting ~ BELGIAN AND SHIRE.
The Belgian is the largest of the draft horses except for the Shire. Stallions weighing more than a ton are not uncommon, and the height may be 16 to 17 hands. Some horsemen criticize the Belgian for being coarse in structure and phlegmatic in disposition. It is neigher the quality of the Clydesdale nor the beauty of the Percheron, but it has a quiet disposition and handles easily. In America it is second in popularity only to the Percheron.
At the lower right is the Shire, the giant of them all. The * feather * or long hair that you will notice on the legs above the fetlocks, gives it an attractive shagginess but is a disadvantage to the animal because in cold, wet weather this hair becomes matted with ice and mud and requires a great deal of extra grooming. Both horses shown here are pictured as they are fitted for the show ring. With rosettes braided into their manes and tails, and with coats shining and hooves polished, they make an impressive sight.
We have obtained many works of art illustrations by the artist: EDWIN MEGARGEE. Artwork SIGNED on the lithograph print. These date 1946 from his collection titled: HORSES.
Lithograph print measuring 12-1/4 inches wide by 9-1/4 inches high. VERY SUITABLE FOR FRAMING.
Beautiful VIBRANT COLORING. NEAR-EXCELLENT CONDITION. Only flaw is at the very, very bottom lower towards right hand corner is a VERY, VERY FAINT water mark, approx. 4-1/2 inches long. Can trim away, or matte around, since you have lots of bordering surrounding the artwork image.
