Edwin Megargee Original Vintage Lithograph Print depicting ~ POLO - THE GAME.
The polo player is one of a team of four, matched against another team of like number. Each team has two forwards, a pivot, and a back who defends his goal. The captain usually plays back or pivot where he can the better control the strategy of his team. The field is of short grass, as smooth as a tennis court but not so velvety as a golf course. It is nine hundred feet long and four hundred and fifty wide, with side boards running the length of the field, and at each end goal posts through which the players attempt to knock the ball. In polo the horse and rider play as one.
