This is one of the rarest pieces of Movie Memorabilia you will ever find! THIS AD MAT IS IN MINT UNUSED CONDITION!!! Some of my customers include Museums located throughout theU.S.A. they have purchased similar Admat molds to exhibit. THE MAIN MOLD READS: "LAST OF THE COMANCHES....TECHNICOLOR. STARRING BRODERICK CRAWFORD & BARBARA HALE.....COLUMBIA PICTURE...... THE WEST'S MOST DANGEROUS HOUR!" THEUPPER MOLD (NOT PICTURED) IS A SMALL TEXT MOLD THAT READS: SOON.....LAST OF THE COMANCHES" TECHNICOLOR...LAST TIMES" DEPENDING WHEN THE AD WOULD RUN THE PRINTER WOULD BLOCK OFF EITHER THE WORDS "LAST TIMES" OR SOON" This mold measures aprox.4 3/4" X4 1/2". It is in MINT UNUSED CONDITION! These molds are great conversationpiece and they are RARE as the dickens! This would look outstandingframed in a shadowbox type frame. Again these are composed of a Wood Fiber....Please don't expect something made out of metal! Cavalry sergeant Broderick Crawford is among the handful of survivors of a Comanche attack. Crawford must lead the survivors across 100 miles of treacherous terrain, and there's only a limited supply of water. Thing of it is, the hidden Comanches are also short of water, and they dearly covet the contents of Crawford's canteens. Also in the thirsty little group is Barbara Hale, whose presence causes dissension in the male ranks. Last of the Comanches was helmed by director Andre DeToth--who, as any film fanatic will tell you, had only one eye. "Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide" These "WOOD ADMATS" are really Molds/Lead Forms that wereintended to have molten lead poured into to them create castings, andthen discarded. This was the way that Newspaper ads, press book Ad Matsand various publications were produced up until the mid 1960's. Mostnewspapers were done via letterpress printing and utilized what iscalled hot type. The lead was melted and then used to type out wordsand imprint pictures. Pictures were usually in the form of one of thesemolds, which is composed of a wood fiber material specially, designedto accept the molten lead. Once cooled the casting was secured in thedesired position in the letterpress, inked and paper placed on top ofthe lead casting. The press was then brought down under pressure and'whala' a spiffy movie ad for a film coming to a theater near you!Electronic typesetting made this process obsolete over 40 years ago!Today's computers and technology make this process extremely efficient.The Extremely Fine artwork in this is just incredible!
