The henna used for mehndi comes from a bush called Lawsonia Inermis which is part of the loose strife family and is grown in hot and dry places.
Natural color of henna when applied to the skin varies from dark brown to a light / dark orange.
There is no such thing as Black Mehndi or any other coloured Mehndi. It is just chemicals added to them. In particular beware of Black Mehndi as it contains lead and when applied on the hair is absorbed by the scalp.
