Vintage Hand-crocheted flower basket thing 1940s-50s hc1155

So absolutely mid-century and I haven't a clue what it is meant for. Hand-crocheted in filet stitch from buttery thread with butterscotch trim. It is in the shape of a flower basket with handle and a 3-D flower attached to one side. It is open at top and bottom and has a crocheted ring for hanging. It is 13 inches across and 10 high. Condition is excellent. Please if you have an idea what this if for clue me in. I have shown it with some plastic bags inserted but this predates plastic carry bags.
