I haven't a clue what this is meant for. It is pristine and perfect and all hand worked. The center is pure white cotton or very fine linen embroidered in varigated thread with 2 daisies on stems. This is slit down the center and finished so minutely I can't even tell how it is done with a magnifying glass. It appears to have tiny fabric teeth. This cotton center is surrounded with a lavish display of varigated crochet with Art Deco fan motif at the outer edge. The whole piece measures 9 inches in diameter and the slit is 5 inches long. The only thing I can think of is that it was a cover for a hair piece dish or box or to cover a bowl of cotton. If anyone has any ideas please email me. What I do know is that this is some of the finest work I've seen in a long time and not a problem in the world.
