This is one of the books in the Antique American Cookbooks set published by Oxmoor House in 1984, 320 pages. It is in Very Good condition. There is a small nick on the back cover edge, small rubbed areas on the corner and spine tips, and a small discoloration on the bottom tip edge. There are two very small spots on the fore-edge of the textblock that affect a few of the interior pages.
The pages are gilt-edged and there are silk moire cloth endpapers in a lovely shade of lavender, and a silk ribbon bookmark. The front board is cloth-covered in a wallpaper fruit stripe, the rest of the binding is bonded leather with raised bands and gilt titles on the spine.
The contents are reprints of Home Cookery (originally printed in 1853) and Ladies Indispensable Companion (originally published in 1854) with advice on everything from how to treat croup to directions for sewing, housekeeping, and laundry, and a story by Shirley Abbott, The Woman with the New Stove that explores some of the trials our ancestors went through just to get dinner on the table.
