Echo Troop is the only remaining troop of a very distinguished regiment. Charlie Troop fought valorously during WW I through the areas of Meuse-Argonne, Lorraine, and Champagne earning the prestigious French Croix de Guerre with Silver Star. Alpha Troop fought courageously through famous places like Normandy, the Rhineland, and the Ardennes-Alsace. While Alpha Troop was fighting for the freedom of Europe, Delta Troop was in the Pacific earning the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. Delta Troop fought through the Northern Solomons and made the initial landing at Luzon.For ten years following the end of WWII the unit trained as the 38th Infantry Divisions 138th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. Then in 1959, it returned to its Cavalry roots as the 2nd Reconnaissance Squadron, 138th Armor of the 38th Infantry Division. In March of 1963, the unit again became a Cavalry Regiment. Troops were spread between Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana and remained an element of the 38th Infantry Division.On 01 September 1994, the unit became Echo Troop, 238th Cavalry assigned to the Nighthawk Brigade.Echo Troop 238th Cavalry started a series of deployments first on 21 February 2002 to Bosnia as part of Task Force 1-151 Infantry for Operation Joint Forge (SFOR 11). The task force redeployed on 15 September 2002 and was demobilized at Ft. Dix, NJ. On May 1, 2004, Echo Troop 238th Cavalry was mobilized to support Operation Enduring Freedom and became part of Joint Task Force Phoenix. Echo Troop 238th Cavalry was attached to 1/151 Infantry and made up the bulk of their Delta Company with the mission to train the Afghanistan National Army. The task force redeployed on 01 August 2005 and was demobilized at Camp Atterbury, IN. On 29 August 2005, the worst natural disaster in United States history occurred. Operation Vigilant Relief was launched to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina on the Louisiana & Mississippi Gulf Coast. Echo Troop 238th Cavalry assisted Delta Company 1/293 Infantry in multiple security missions along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and was demobilized 15 October 2005.Currently Echo Troop 238th Cavalry is awaiting the finalization of an internal state reorganization.
