Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a Taeguk in proper colors (red above blue) charged with a gold fleur-de-lis below a light blue invected chevron couped at the sides and divided into five vertical bars on a buff background surrounded by a red motto scroll issuing from the base of the Taeguk and arcing around top bearing the words “SERVICE TO PROFESSIONALS” in gold letters. Symbolism: Buff and scarlet are the traditional colors of support. The light blue chevron appears as an arch; it represents the unit’s mission of support and alludes to the unit’s origin as a Quartermaster Battalion. The five divided sections represent the five campaign participation credits authorized as a Quartermaster Battalion in World War II and the Korean War. The Taeguk and red motto scroll suggest the Meritorious Unit Commendation and Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation awarded the unit for service in the Korean War. The fleur-de-lis stands for World War II service in Europe (mostly in France). Background: The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 501st Support Group on 7 April 1986.
