Jerry Lee Lewis & Friends ( Jimmy Ellis and Charlie Rich )
At some point in 1956, after a trip to Nashville, where every record company turned him down, Jerry Lee read an article in Country Song Roundup about Elvis Presley. Lewis decided that his music might fall on more receptive ears in Memphis at Sun Records. Jerry Lee and his father, Elmo, sold 13 dozen eggs and drove north from Ferriday to Memphis.

Sam Phillips had left town to work on a new radio station in Marked Tree, Arkansas. Jack Clement was in the control room at Memphis Recording Service. Jerry Lee was insistent that someone listen to him and stated to Sally Wilburn that "1 can play the piano like Chet Atkins plays the guitar." Clement finally listened and made a demo tape of Jerry Lee because he was so different.

A large number of the sessions between late 1956 and 1958 are still clouded in considerable mystery---especially with regard to the recording dates-many session tapes for the period 1960-1963 are still missing and even entire sessions are still missing. However many new recordings have turned up in recent years as unmarked boxes of tapes have been listened to and identified.
This has the original recordings of many of the sessions.
