In Very Good used condition, no dustjacket as issued, pages lightly age-toned, very light cover edgewear.

Anthony Crossley gives priority to the logic of the correct position of the rider as being an essential precondition for the proper and effective application of any aid, and indeed, as being an aid in itself. He then outlines the various forms of aid available to the rider under their main groupings of Legs, Seat and Reins, and stresses their inter-relationship through the vital co-ordinating centre of the muscles of the riders' loins.

A chapter on it's own is devoted to the Half-Halt, described by the author as the Universal Aid. Chapter 4 defines the classic aids for all the specific gaits and transitions, while chapters 5 and 6 deal respectively in detail with the aids for the many forms of lateral movement and for the more difficult airs of Rein-Back, Flying Changes of Leg, Piaffe and Passage. There is also a note to define the distinction between the canter and the gallop.

The final two chapters deal with the importance of certain physical exercises for both the rider and the horse to ensure that their bodies are suitably and regularly prepared to undertake the strenuous work required from them, with priority given to preparing and tuning up the body of the rider.
