About clovers...
Clovers are small plants that normally only have 3 leaves. Rare genetic mutations can cause extra leaves to grow, resulting in clovers with 4, 5, 6, 7, or more leaves. The current world record for number of leaves on a clover is 21. It is considered good luck to possess a 4 leaf clover. According to legend, each leaf has a different meaning. One leaf for hope, one leaf for faith, one for love, and one for luck. St. Patrick of Ireland used three leaf clovers to symbolize the Trinity. A fourth leaf was said to stand for God's grace.
About puka shells...
The original puka shells were from a type of sea snail. The snail's shell would wear down gradually in the ocean until all that was left of the shell was the top part, which was the hardest part of the shell. Over time, a hole may even naturally appear in the center. The shells would wash up on the beach and be collected for stringing.
