VINTAGE TURKISH POSTAGE STAMP
Out of circulation. Single stamp
195 kurus stamp printed in probably 1950s by Guzel Sanatlar Matbaasi (Fine Arts Printingpress), Istanbul about the Turkish Justice System.
The image you see on the stamp is that of the symbol of Turkish Justice System. The woman holding a sword in one hand and a scale on the other signifies the evenness of justice and it is cutting edge. Usually the image of the woman would be blind, but I guess this was before the widespread "blind justice" image spread.
The writing on green backgroud states "Adalet mulkun temelidir" (Justice (Law) is the foundation of Government). Another one of Ataturk's famous sayings.
Interestingly enough the Crescent and star of the Turkish Flag is facing the wrong direction. This was quite common in earlier drawings and images in the Turkish state.
Kurus was worth 100th of a Turkish Lira (TL) before the removal of the 6 zeros from the end to start the new lira. It has been long out of circulation.
