AUTHENTIC ORIGINAL RARE!Click the pix for larger images Biography by John Bush Indie-rock and industrial noise mixed with goth showmanship and song structure provided Nice Strong Arm with a focus over their several years of recording for Homestead Records. Founded in Austin but later based in New York, guitarist Kevin Thomson, bassist Jason Asnes and producer Steve McAllister provided the backbone to the group's approach, first heard on 1987's Reality Bath. Nice Strong Arm's second album, Mind Furnace, followed in 1988, after which came an EP and the band's final release, 1990's Stress City. Frank Kozik was born in Spain and by 1981 he had found his way to Austin. Much of his earliest work was done with the Art Maggots. In 1987 Kozik began designing posters for the Cave Club, which was eventually relocated by owner Brad First to 6th Street as Club Cairo, which begat in turn the Cannibal Club. Kozik's raw early style, often calculatedly offensive, became popular with bands such as Austin's Butthole Surfers. A Poison 13 concert was cancelled by University of Texas officials, reportedly in response to Christian students complaints about the poster Kozik had designed for the show - an unflattering rendering of Baby Jesus roasting on a "Char-Boy" barbeque grill. Though Kozik was very active locally during the late Eighties, he has been working primarily on West Coast projects lately, often in conjunction with California's L'Imagerie. Under its auspices he now has his own shop for screen printing, a process he was exposed to while working at Bee-Bop Printing in 1987.This item is from a massive collection assembled by an obsessed punk art collector straight off the street and clubs during the heyday of the Texas punk scene and is guaranteed authentic as originally issued, printed prior to, and in conjunction with the promotion of the event. Considering the limited runs and exposure to the elements, you may very well be looking at the only surviving example of this piece. This is an original single sheet printed paper poster advertisement (A.K.A. handbill, flyer or print) for a concert performance gig by professional musicians at a music venue. Obscure slices of Americana, these regional street art posters were often issued in limited runs of less than 100. This collection includes many unique pieces of music style outsider art, many individually hand-inked by the DIY artist. Does "rare" describe one of a kind?
