Born on Long Island in '71, he moved to Texas in 1978, and designed his first poster ten years later. His earliest pieces were signed "J. Wichrowski," and for a time he used the allonym "Zebulon Woodhull." Often approximating a neo-psychedelic look and using quasi Sixties era lettering, Austin nonetheless shares the penchant for gory and horrific imagery currently favored by many alternative posterists. He often works with Lyman Hardy, who began creating posters in Houston about '85 and moved to Austin in 1990. - jagmo.comStyle elements and repetition always did it for me. The same large black and white flyer on a hundred telephone poles up and down a long street. Nothing like repetition to get one's attention, make 'em curious. Then, there's always the fact that two or more eyes on a poster will make 'em look at it. And if nothing else works, use sex to get their attention! Boobs and eyes, man! - Jason Austin - Fellow poster artist Jason Austin and I were like night operatives. Secret poster agents. We did a lot of posters for my old band, Ed Hall. We plastered posters everywhere in Austin. For years you could see orange and purple remnants on light poles for years. - Lyman Hardy - Art of Modern Rock - aomr.com©A Sound Deal
