This souvenir spoon is from Panama City in Panama. It is silver plate with a jelly spoon shape to the bowl, slender stem topped by a miniature reproduction of a statue of explorer Vasco de Nunez de Balboa holding a sword and a flag standing on a globe held in place by unidentified marble men.
Balboa first visited Panama in 1513. The statue was sculpted by Miguel Blan and Mariano Benlliure and donated by King Alphonso XIII of Spain. Panamanian president Balisario Porras inaugerated the statue in 1924.
The spoon is silverplate and marked on the back, B, Made in Holland, EPNS. It is 5 inches long.
