  • Description
This is a traditional Miao embroidery handbag for Miao women. The bag is decorated with embroidery patterns of lucky charms including flowers, fruits, and children. Miao girls carry this bag for special occasions. The catchy color and beautiful design will sure catch a lot of attention. A blue cover tucked inside the bag can be flipped out to protect the embroidery for daily usage.

With a population of 8.9 million, the Miao people form one of the largest ethnic minorities in southwest China. They are mainly distributed across Guizhou, Yunnan, Hunan and Sichuan provinces and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Much of the Miao area is hilly or mountainous, so their houses are made of timber or rocks.

Miaos are fond of singing and dancing, and have a highly-developed folk literature. Their clothing has distinctive features which vary from place to place. Women's clothing varies even from village to village. In west Hunan and northeast Guizhou, women wear jackets and trousers, with decorations embroidered on collars, sleeves and pants. In other areas, women wear high-collared short jackets and full- or half-length pleated skirts. They also wear various kinds of silver jewelry on festive occasions.
